What is the Cause of Halitosis?

If you’re suffering from halitosis then you probably know that it can affect your personal and professional life. Most people won’t tell you that your breath sucks; they’ll just talk about your foul odor to others behind your back. Having a bad breath problem is abashing, but what’s actually the cause of halitosis?

One of the common causes of bad breath is dry mouth. When your mouth is dry, there is a lack of oxygen in your mouth thus creating an anaerobic (absence of oxygen) environment that is conducive for the bacteria that causes bad breath. This kind of bad breath usually dissapears once the saliva in your mouth is flowing again.

Sometimes the cause of halitosis is some external agents. Bad breath may appear after you’ve eaten a meal that’s full of garlic or onions. Smoking cigarettes and cigars may also cause bad breath.

Then there is chronic bad breath. It’s characterized by a persisten foul odor that comes from your mouth or/and nose. This kind of bad breath might be an indication of a serious periodontal disease. If you’re having this type of bad breath, then it’s better for you to go to a dentist for professional help.
