What You Should Do About Bad Breath?

It can be horrifying to find yourself in a close conversation with someone and abruptly aware that your conversation partner has a bad smelling breath. It can almost make you feel loathsome to go on with the conversation and it’s very difficult not to make a gesture that conveys disgust.

The offensive odor evokes almost nonvoluntary reactions. This is a tough situation and many people want to just get away as fast as possible from the foul odor. Bad breath is quite awful for others to deal with, but it’s important to address the problem on all levels both personally and as a friend, relative or acquaintance of the person suffering from the problem.

Personal Responsibility

So what’s to be done about bad breath? First, since most causes of bad breath is in the mouth, you have a responsibility to take good care of your teeth and perform oral hygiene practices that will help forestall bad breath. It is a courteous manner to ensure that others don’t have to suffer with a person’s laziness and lack of personal care.

Second, if you know that you have a bad breath problem, then you should acknowledge that and deal with the problem as best as you can. If you can’t solve the problem on your own, then you should seek professional help of a dentist and doctor.

Tell Others

If you’re speaking with someone who has bad breath, it’s important to inform your conversation partner about his or her problem rather then just get away from it. It’s possible that your conversation partner is unaware of his or her bad breath. Not mentioning that bad breath can be an indication of a serious problem such as gum disease. By telling him or her about the problem, you may just save another person’s life.

But you’re probably aware that it’s not easy to tell someone that he or she has bad breath. One way to address the situation is by offering the person a piece of gum and mint and tell him or her gently about the problem. Another way is by bringing up the subject of bad breath in the conversation and offer him or her the mint or gum. Hopefully, this will help him or her understand that he or she has a bad breath problem.

In case the above ways don’t work, then you may need to tell him or her directly that he or she has bad breath and need to deal with the problem. Even though this is a very difficult thing to do, it’s something that needs to be done.
